Additional Information:

The Affenpinsher is a small dog that has a medium length coat that is harsh and wiry in texture. Generally black in colour although grey, silver, black and tan and red colourations also sometimes appear. Weekly grooming is recommended.

Although Affenpinschers are mischievous, fun, playful and just a little stubborn they are also confident, lively, loving to family members and defensive of them too, they also get on well with other dogs and pets. (One word of caution though, Affenpinschers were originally breed as ratters so it is advisable not to let them be around a pet mouse, rat, hamster or ferret).

Affenpinschers need firm, consistent training as they can become bored quite easily. They are also territorial when it comes to food and toys so training from a pup is essential, this breed is not really suitable for households with very small children because of this. Affenpinschers also have a loud yap which is great for letting you know when intruders are about but also means good training is required to stop it becoming a nuisance. They also are wary of and may be aggressive to strangers so early socialisation as a puppy is essential for them.

Affenpinschers are generally a healthy breed with no specific ailments.

Average lifespan 10-14 years.
