| Additional Information: The American Cocker Spaniel is the smallest breed of the gundog group, they have a silky coat which comes in a variety of colours; black, any solid colour other than black, roans, tricolours and particolours. They are intelligent dogs who do not respond well to harsh training but they are eager to please. They are happy, cheerful, trusting, playful with a lively curiosity and they make ideal companions and family pets. Grooming is required daily and regular bathing and trimming will also be required. American Cocker Spaniels have long ears and these will need regular checking to keep ear infections at bay, the ears will also trail in food and drinking bowls unless specific ones are used so regular cleaning is essential. Their eyes will also need regular cleaning. This breed doesn’t really like rough and tumble play so young children should be supervised in case games get too rough, exercise should be for at least 60 minutes a day and should include fetch games they also love swimming and free running. There are a few heath problems with this breed and can include ear infections, hip dysplacia and patella luxation. Before buying a puppy insist that you see a current clear eye certificate for both parents. You should also have a vet check for patella luxation. Lifespan average 15 years | |||||||||||||
